The Future of the Scene.....

I've been into 'Intelligent'/Liquid D+B for over ten years now and was just wondering where people feel the scene is going and what is going to drive it forward - especially in a musical sense?

Obviously sites like these and social media help to develop the community and help spread the word but what and who (producer wise) do you think is going to take the scene forward........

I'm only 17, i've been into liquid dnb for 2-3 years now and to be honest i can only see the liquid funk scene expanding in the next few years,

drum and bass in general is becoming alot more popular (in London at least) and Liquid offers the perfect solution for rnb/ soul fans looking for a way into the beautiful word that is liquid!

I'm just scared that drum and bass is becoming too commercialised, and i really dont want whats happening to dubstep to happen to liquid,

lets hope the community expands, but only for love of the music, not for love of money!

personally Liqweed are releasing some amazing tracks, specially Mutt's recent release with Kevin King

I agree. For me Liquid is more about the vibe and soulfulness of the music and that is timeless than trying out new production techniques, which is one of the reasons why I started this post tbh because as I'm not as involved in the scene as I once I was (used to DJ a bit nothing big but also go clubbing alot more than I do now - getting old!!;) I was keen to hear what the new generation thought! ......I still listen to my early GLR vinyl alot now and those tunes could easily be fitted into new stuff I here nowadays......

Don;t get me wrong I love Hospital and feel they've done a great job of pushing the sound out to the masses......

Hey man, great post. Hopefully things wont change too drastically for liquid as I love where it is right now, so much good music, a pure vibe ridden sound which as Faulk mentions stands the test of time. You can easily play a liquid  tune from 3 years ago and it still sounds fresh, can't say the same for tech or jump!

I hear alot of different styles of liquid emerging, obviously minimal is making waves but it will struggle to reach a wide audience as it's quite a specific sound whereas generally liquid is much more 'non dnb head' friendly. As long as it's got breaks, bass and the soulful sound we love we can call it liquid and I reckon it's got it's best years to come.

Market leaders such as Hospital will help shape the scene, but to me they are similar to GLR in that they are creating their own sound and following which leaves a lot of room for new sounds and new talent doing things differently, so I suppose we have to wait and see what happens.

Don't stop telling people about liquid drum and bass music, we all have power to affect our scene.

I agree mate. I stared getting into Intelligent (sounds a bit wanky) D+B through listening to Bukems show on Kiss, so used to and still do love Good Looking.......On his show I heard London Elektricitys 'Pull the plug' and I loved their jazzy 'live' sound and from then on got into the Hospital sound.

Don't get me wrong I still like alot of Hospital releases (subscribe to the podcast) but I feel as they've grown there sound has become alot more club focussed and the deep jazzy quality of the earlier releases has gone. For example, I think Logistics is an amazing producer but his new album imo is no where near as good as his previous two....I just think the whole Hospital sound has got a bit predictable...

I know what you mean about the minimal sound (Subwave/Bop), and theres some killer tunes on The Future Sound of Russia....So the future of the scene is more minimal club orientated?

I suppose Im hoping GLR deliver the goods because I listened to Bukems Journey Inwards the other day and that still sounds fresh 10 odd years on, not sure the same will be said of the minimal sound?

Same here, I have been into the liquid dnb scene for quite some time now.  I personally am a big fan of the Hospital label and I always look for what type of new sound they incorporate throughout the year. I look to Hospital for guidance when it comes to the liquid dnb scene's "new" sound.

As a side note, I have heard a bit of minimalist-liquid dnb tracks floating around. I see this a future forshadowing of what is to come for liquid dnb, it may even separate itself into a newer subgenre of liquid dnb. Tracks such as Spectrasoul's "Melodies" or Subwave's "Stars Get Down" give me an idea what is to come for future dnb. I personally feel that it's getting more "minimal."
